Readable is designed to respect your privacy. We do not require you to create a traditional user account with personal identifiers like your name or email address. Instead, we use an Anonymous Device Identifier to save your preferences.
When you install and open the App, we generate a unique, anonymous identifier tied to your specific device. This identifier is saved locally on your device (using SharedPreferences) and is used to sync your reading experience.
To provide a seamless reading experience, we store data related to your interaction with the stories in our MongoDB database using your anonymous device identifier. This includes:

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with the App. This helps us improve the user experience. Firebase Analytics may collect aggregated, non-personally identifiable usage data, such as screens viewed, buttons tapped, and general app engagement.
To maintain app stability, we use Firebase Crashlytics. If the App crashes, Crashlytics automatically collects crash reports, which may include details about your device model, operating system version, and the state of the App at the time of the crash. This data is strictly used for debugging and improving app reliability.
For users on the free tier, we display advertisements provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may use device identifiers and other diagnostic data to serve relevant ads. By using the free version of the App, you consent to the collection and use of this data by Google for advertising purposes. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your Android device settings.
If you choose to purchase a Readable Premium subscription (e.g., $3.99/month or $29.99/year), the transaction is processed securely through Google Play Billing. We do not collect, process, or store your credit card or payment information. We only receive a confirmation receipt from Google to unlock your premium features (such as an ad-free experience).
The stories, your bookmarks, and your reading progress are securely stored in our cloud-hosted MongoDB database. The data is associated only with your anonymous device identifier.

We retain your anonymous reading history and bookmarks for as long as you use the App. Since we do not require a user account, if you uninstall the App and clear your device storage, a new anonymous identifier will be generated upon reinstallation, and your previous data will be orphaned and eventually purged. If you wish to request deletion of data associated with a specific device identifier, please contact us.
Readable is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us, and we will take steps to delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
